Police told, Teodoro Macias, 28, fatally killed his girlfriend, Sandra Ibarra-Perez, 28, and 5 relatives before setting the gun on himself.

Police state the Colorado Springs killer had a fight with the shooted family at a separate event about a week earlier and was a possessive ruling boyfriend.

“At the edge of this terrible act is a national disturbance,” the Colorado Springs Police Chief Vince Niski announced at a news conference on Tuesday.

He added: “When he ‘Macias’ wasn’t called to a family party, the criminal reacted by opening fire.”

He told the killer had represented power and control issues and was in a tie with his girlfriend for about a year. He had no criminal record.

3 children, aged two, five, and 11, witnessed the brutal attack and were not physically injured, stated police. Seventeen bullet casings were recovered in the mobile home.

On Tuesday, Colorado Springs police recognized the other victims:

  • Jose Gutierrez Cruz, 21 (Melvin’s brother)
  • Mayra Perez, 32 (Melvin’s wife)
  • Joana Cruz, 53 (Melvin’s mother)

Nubia Marquez, the sister of Melvin Perez and the daughter of Joana Cruz, reported the Colorado Springs Gazette the leash had experienced the same birthday week and “had always liked celebrating them together”.

She visited the party at Cruz’s trailer park home with her hubby, Freddy Marquez.

But the couple informed interviewers they left around 22:00 local time on Saturday night.

The incident took place shortly after midnight, in the early hours of Mother’s Day.

Marquez paid tribute to his mother-in-law, showing the Gazette that Mrs. Cruz was a “loving” and “hard-working” mother of 4 who was “always smiling” and had raised her children to be “excellent people”.

Marquez reported to the Gazette the killer was a quiet and serious man who always carried a gun with him.

According to police, the semi-automatic gun was not legally occupied by the attacker.

In a report on Sunday, Colorado governor Jared Polis condemned the horrifying act of brutality, noting it had become taken place when “most of us are using the time praising the women in our lives who have made us the people we are today”.
